The inflammation spreads not only to the tooth, but also to the bone tissue around the root. Depending on the pathological changes, periodontitis is classified as fibrous, granuloma or cyst. Infectious periodontitis is mainly a complication of caries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can be primary (when the process develops from untreated caries or pulpitis) or secondary (when the process has an iatrogenic cause). Depending on how bacteria enter, periodontitis is divided into intradental and extradental (from inside and outside the tooth). The latter may include inflammation spreading from surrounding tissues (osteomyelitis, sinusitis).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traumatic periodontitis develops both from a single impact (a sudden fall or a blow from a blunt, heavy object) and from minor but chronic trauma (an oversized filling, biting thread or wire). With trauma, the process is usually acute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Drug-induced periodontitis mainly develops when pulpitis is treated incorrectly and potent drugs or irritants (phosphate cement, posts) reach the periodontal tissues (e.g. arsenic, phenol, formalin). Periodontitis that develops from allergic reactions is also classed as drug-induced. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Periodontitis is one possible complication of caries. It comes with breakdown of the nerve, damage to the ligament that holds the tooth, tooth mobility and pain on touch. Fever is also possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the disease runs without symptoms, the bone around the root is destroyed and a granuloma or cyst forms, which requires serious treatment not only to save the tooth, but also to protect the body from general intoxication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having many teeth with periodontitis can also damage internal organs, including the kidneys (glomerulonephritis), the heart (rheumatism) and the joints (rheumatism). <br>To treat an inflamed tooth, the tooth is opened and the canals are cleaned mechanically, with antiseptics and with ultrasound.
