Gingivitis

Gum disease can develop with inadequate hygiene or other systemic diseases. Gingivitis is characterized by inflammation of the interdental papillae and the marginal (edge) areas of the gums.

Causes of gingivitis:

• Inadequate oral hygiene
• Harmful habits
• Defects in fillings and artificial crowns
• Crowded teeth
• Gum injury
• Immunodeficiency
• Taking various medications
• Infectious diseases
• Somatic diseases

In the mouth, gingivitis looks very similar to periodontitis, but with gingivitis the inflammation does not spread to the bone and is limited to the soft tissues. Without proper treatment, gingivitis may progress to periodontitis, although this does not always happen.

Treatment

In many cases, curing gingivitis only requires removing the causes and having a professional hygiene cleaning, after which the patient fully recovers, provided they keep up good hygiene.

Conservative treatment methods:

• Professional oral hygiene (removal of soft and hard deposits above and below the gum line)
• Anti-inflammatory therapy
• Personal hygiene – choosing oral hygiene products and learning the correct brushing technique
• Etiological treatment:
treatment of carious defects
correction of fillings and artificial crowns
rational prosthetics
bite correction
eliminating harmful habits

Surgical treatment methods:

• Removal of the hypertrophied part of the gum
• Correction of the tongue and lip frenula
